The first weekend of February saw the return of the Rocamar Magic Hat Surf Competition! This was the second year of the annual competition, where the whole community gets together to cheer on the surfers and raise money for the Santa Teresa Lifeguards.
There are only two rules for the surf competition - (1) you must surf in a costume and (2) you must surf a soft-top board, picked out of the ´Magic Hat´by random draw. This year we had many characters surfing - including two smurfs, a viking, a crocodile, a cow... and many more!
The humpback whales also turned up in the background to be part of the show!
It was a beautiful day of fun, with $26,500 raised during the event to support the Lifeguards. Most of the funds were raised through the raffle, which had some seriously amazing prizes - including private yoga classes, scuba diving trips, sky diving trips, a return flight to San Jose with Costa Rica GreenAirway, hotel stays, and much more. A huge thanks goes to all the local businesses who so generously offered their goods and services, and to all those who took part in the raffle.
And the wonderful day of activities was topped off with an evening of dancing and music from hte guys of Radio Quebrada. Good vibes all around!
